Makeup Minimalism is the Way of the Future

As a makeup artist, you might think I'm a maximalist when it comes to makeup. And if we're talking about the kit I maintain for applying bridal makeup or teaching makeup lessons, then you'd be absolutely correct! As a pro, I need to be prepared for every possible skin type and tone and have a wide variety of creative options available. But when it comes to my own makeup shelf, and the way that I select products for my makeup clients, I am actually a makeup minimalist.

Makeup minimalism is a growing movement emphasizing simplicity and a more natural look. It is about embracing one's features and enhancing them subtly, instead of using a huge palette of products to create dramatic transformations. This approach to makeup focuses on a minimalist routine that consists of just a few essential core products, allowing you to save time, money, and energy while still looking your best. My favorite part: it's all about showcasing who you already are and embracing your real beauty.

One of the key principles of minimalism in general, and makeup minimalism in particular, is the concept of 'less is more.' Instead of using a wide range of products, a minimalist makeup routine typically involves a few multipurpose items that can be used to achieve multiple looks. For example, a tinted moisturizer with SPF can serve as a foundation, sunscreen, and moisturizer in one, simplifying your routine and reducing the number of products needed. This not only saves time during application, but it also makes packing for travel much easier and saves money.

One multi-purpose cream tint can be an eyeshadow, blush, or lip tint. Products like this one can do triple duty as a blush, bronzer, and highlighter. And these new pencils can be used for all kinds of purposes like eyeliner, brow pencil, contour, lip liner - the only limit is your creativity!

Makeup minimalism also focuses on high-quality products that are effective and long-lasting. Rather than buying numerous cheap products that may not deliver the desired results, minimalists invest in a few high-quality items that work well and can multitask. This results in better performance and reduces waste by avoiding excessive purchases of products that will ultimately go unused or discarded.

Makeup minimalism also promotes self-acceptance and self-confidence. By embracing a more natural look, you can appreciate and showcase your unique features, rather than hiding behind layers of heavy makeup. This approach promotes skincare and maintaining a healthy complexion, as healthy skin serves as the foundation for any makeup look. By prioritizing skin care, makeup minimalists can achieve a fresh and radiant appearance with minimal makeup, leaving all the focus on you and not your makeup. I'm also a fan of minimalism when it comes to skincare - you do not need a 12-step regimen to get amazing results!

This approach to cosmetics prioritizes simplicity, practicality, and self-acceptance. By streamlining your makeup and skincare routine and focusing on quality over quantity, makeup minimalism can help you achieve a more natural and effortless look while saving time and money, and reducing waste in the process. What could be better than that!
